Brandon “The Heartbreaker” Figueroa (12-0, 8 KOs) showed relentless work with a unanimous-decision victory over Luis Saavedra (7-3, 3 KOs) on PBC’s Toe-To-Toe Tuesday’s from The Sportsmen’s Lodge in Studio City, CA on FS1.
Figueroa, showed he wanted to work out some different looks early on and it showed as it puzzled Saavedra.
The 20 year old switched to southpaw in the opening round and took the fight to Saavedra with ruthless body work.
The Mexican native from San Luis could never really get off as he was hounded with pressure from Figueroa and never really showed any glimpses of winning this fight.
Brandon’s older brother, former Lightweight champion of the world Omar Figueroa, was a guest on the telecast from ringside and commented that his little brother should have taken out Luis by the third round at the latest.
The Heartbreaker would switch back to his natural orthodox stance in the mid rounds, but that was only for a little bit as most of the fight he looked comfortable fighting from southpaw.
Figueroa showed excellent body work as the fight went on and wore down the rugged Luis, though give Luis credit, he had some brief moments during the eight-round bout.
In the end, it was a very workman’s day at the office for Figueroa. The judges cards were announced as 78-74, 79-73, 79-73, all for Figueroa.
