According to ESPN, Carl “The Jackal” Frampton (24-1, 14 KOs) is set take on former four-weight world champion, “The Filipino Flash” Nonito Donaire (38-4, 24 KOs) in Belfast on April 7.

Frampton, who made his return to the ring on November 18 against Horacio Garcia, is looking to land another title opportunity in the Featherweight division. The Garcia bout marked Frampton’s first after splitting with Barry McGuigan’s Cyclone Promotions and his son who trained Frampton, Shane.

Frampton has revamped his team and is now promoted by Frank Warren, who seemingly confirmed Frampton’s opponent at a press conference, screened on BoxNation’s Facebook page, for Billy Joe Saunders who recently defeated David Lemieux in a one-sided boxing lesson.

“On April 7 we’ll be in Belfast where Carl Frampton will be fighting [Nonito] Donaire. It’s a real cracking fight, a good fight for him and we’ll be giving further details in the new year,” said Warren.

Frampton, who has publicly stated that he has an interest in facing Leo Santa Cruz for a third time, could also be in the mix to face the Lee Selby vs. Josh Warrington winner.

Selby and Warrington are scheduled to fight for Selby’s IBF Featherweight title in Leeds next year.

“Selby-Warrington is a done deal, that’s signed, and we’ll be announcing a date for that in the next few weeks. It’ll be in Leeds,” said Warren.
