Daniel Roman Defeats Gavin McDonnell Via 10th Round TKO

Daniel Roman defeated Gavin McDonnell by 10th round TKO to retain his WBA Super Bantamweight title on Saturday night October 6, in Chicago.

Daniel Roman (26-2-1, 10 KOs) defeated Gavin McDonnell (20-2-2, 5 KOs) by 10th round TKO to retain his WBA Super Bantamweight title.

It was action packed for 12 rounds. Each fighter seemed to throw the game plan out of the window and turn this fight into a brawl.

Roman was landing the much clearer blows and seemed to have more power behind his punches than McDonnell.

Both fighters were taking each other’s best shot until late in the bout. Roman caught McDonnell and stumbled him. Roman jumped on the attack to finish McDonnell in the 10th round. McDonnell beat the count, but the referee quickly waived off the fight, giving Roman a solid title defense notch on his belt.

“It was a great test, Gavin McDonnell is a hell of a fighter,” said Roman after the fight. “I didn’t take anything away from him, he gave it his best, it was my night.”

Roman showed why he is the champion, and immediately let the world know his future plans in the post-fight interview with DAZN.

“I want to challenge all the champions,” stated Roman. “I want all the champions. Rey Vargas (32-0, 22 KOs), Isaac Dogboe (20-0, 14 KOs), TJ Doheny (20-0, 14 KOs).”

Daniel Roman feels he is ready for unification bouts and will fight any of the champions that are willing.

“I want to fight the best in my division, let’s do it,” added Roman.
