Deontay Wilder Continues KO Streak

Deontay Wilder continued his undefeated streak by scoring a fourth-round technical knockout over Jason Gavern in a stay-busy fight at the StubHub Center in Carson, California.

Deontay Wilder (32-0, 32 KOs) continued his undefeated streak by scoring a fourth-round technical knockout over Jason Gavern (25-17-4, 11 KOs) in a stay-busy fight at the StubHub Center in Carson, California.

The scheduled 10-round fight was the featured bout of Showtime Extreme’s televised undercard coverage of the Welterweight showdown between Shawn Porter and Kell Brook.

Wilder was greeted in the first round with an overhand right by an overmatched Gavern, but Wilder took his time to find his range and rhythm.

In each of rounds three and four, Wilder scored knockdowns, the former of which was actually a slip.

At the end of round four, Gavern was no longer able to continue, forcing referee Jack Reiss to stop the fight upon the corner’s request.

The 28-year-old native of Tuscaloosa, Alabama will now face Bermane Stiverne for Stiverne’s WBC Heavyweight title in November.

Jorge Linares vs. Ira Terry

Jorge Linares (37-3, 24 KOs) knocked out Ira Terry (26-12, 16 KOs) in the second round of a scheduled eight-round fight.

The 29-year-old native of Barinas, Venezuela made quick work of Terry, using a combination of speed and well-timed counterpunches to overwhelm the aggressive Terry.

In the first round, Linares landed a counter right hand and left hook that began a powerful flurry on the ropes.

In the second round, Terry was caught coming forward with a check left hook, but his aggression was unimpaired by Linares’ countershot.

Terry then found himself on the canvas for several minutes after the 29-year-old native of Brighton, Tennessee was knocked out by Linares’ powerful counter right hand.

Linares’ next fight will likely be for a world title, possibly for the WBC Lightweight title that Omar Figueroa will soon vacate.
