Dominic Wade (18-0, 12 KOs) did enough on two judges’ scorecards to earn a 10-round split-decision win over the always awkward Sam Soliman (44-12, 18 Kos) at the Little Creek Casino Resort in Shelton Washington.
The Super Middleweight fight headlined a ShoBox card that also featured Oscar Rivas and Erickson Lubin.
Wade, 25, had trouble with the 41-year-old’s awkward style, but did manage to score a questionable knockdown in Round 4.
Soliman, of a Austrailia, landed punches as he leaped in and out of range–he even landed an uppercut from the outside on the taller Wade.
Nevertheless, two judges scored the fight 97-92 for Wade, while one judge scored it 96-93 for Soliman.
Oscar Rivas (17-0, 12 KOs) scored a first-round KO over Jason Pettaway (17-3, 10 KOs) in a scheduled eight-round Heavyweight fight.
Rivas was almost disqualified for low blows in the early part of the fight, but nonetheless scored a quick victory.
In a veritable mistwatch, Erickson Lubin (11-0, 8 KOs) easily walked through Ayi Bruce (23-10, 15 KOs) with a first-round knockout that opened up tonight’s broadcast.
As far as the main even winner is concerned. Showtime’s Steve Farhood said Wade is a top-ten contender.
