Eddie Gomez (21-3, 12 KOs) caught a huge win with a stunning picture-perfect right hand counter, knocking out KeAndre Gibson (18-2-1, 7 KOs) in the second round in a Welterweight contest in the co-main Event at Fantasy Springs Casino in Indio, CA on Thursday night on ESPN.
Gomez, the Bronx native who hasn’t fought in 236 days set himself up early in the first round with distance.
All it took was a great counter right hand that buckled Gibson’s knees and set him backwards on the canvas.
Gibson was able to get up and beat the count, but as he gathered himself, he was obviously out on his feet and the referee made the right decision and calling the fight.
“I saw that he kept dropping his hands after he jabbed. So, I waited for that and landed the right hand clear,” said Gomez. “I was patient, and when he threw punches, I saw every clear. Training camp was long, so now I can finally breathe and relax.”
This was a huge victory for Eddie Gomez, who had lost his previous two out of three fights.
We’ll be sure to see Eddie Gomez back on ESPN in a matter of time.
