PALM BAY, FL (Monday, February 20, 2017) – From Rio to Florida! This Friday, February 24, former 2016 Rio Olympians and Top Rank® fighters, Teofimo Lopez and Antonio Vargas, will be in action in separate bouts, at ‘Showdown’ presented by All Star Boxing at the Tony Rosa Community Center.
Lopez (1-0, 1 KO), who was the only boxing representative of Honduras and Central America in the 2016 Rio Olympic Games, will go into his second professional fight when he collides against the more experienced Mexican fighter, Francisco Medel (10-0, 7 KO’s), in a four-round rumble in the lightweight division.
“I always train hard. We are already at weight and we are going to win this fight. I feel like I can win this fight by knockout in the first round,” assured the ultra-confident Lopez. “My opponent can have more experience than me, but for me he could have 30 fights and the result will be the same. I’m mentally ready to win,” said the former Honduran Olympian that now resides in Davie, Florida.
In his pro debut, Lopez beat Ishwar Siqueiros via second round knockout, in a bout that took place in Las Vegas at the November 5 world championship event, headlined by Manny Pacquiao and Jessie Vargas.
Meanwhile, Vargas, who represented the United States at the 2016 Olympic games in Rio De Janeiro, will make his professional debut in a four-round showdown in the bantamweight division. The young fighter whose father is Puerto Rican and mother is Mexican, will battle against Puerto Rico’s Luis Villegas (0-3).
