It was quicker than expected, but the universally recognized Middleweight champion looks like he’ll be at the throne for a long time to come.
On Saturday, April 23, 2016, the IBF, WBA and interim WBC Middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (35-0, 32KOs) utterly destroyed Dominic Wade (18-1, 12 KOs) in two rounds at the Forum in Inglewood, California.
The scheduled 12-round fight was televised via HBO in the U.S. and also included his partner in crime, Roman Gonzalez, in the co-main event.
Golovkin, 34, of Karaganda, Kazakhstan, pushed forward confidently in the opening round with quick jabs and an intelligent amount of head movement. As he pushed forward, the Middleweight champion easily parried or blocked Wade’s left hands before landing punishing blows.
Wade, of Washington, DC, was no match for Golovkin. Wade fought the better part of the fight on his back foot, and he could not do anything to prevent Golovkin’s. Before the first round would end, in fact, Wade was floored with a short right hand.
In Round 2, Golovkin pushed forward in exactly the same way, scoring two more knockdowns before referee Jack Reiss put an end to the fight.

In his post-fight interview with HBO’s Max Kellerman, Golovkin had a short message for the winner of Canelo Alvarez vs. Amir Khan:”Just give me my belt.”
It’s the biggest fight that can be made and everyone knows it. It remains to be seen if that is a possibility for 2016.
