On Saturday, September 16, 2017, undefeated world Middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (37-0, 33 KOs) will defend his WBC, WBA, IBF, and IBO titles against lineal and Ring Magazine title holder, Canelo Alvarez (49-1-1, 34 KOs) at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, NV.
Whether you’re interested in Mayweather-McGregor or not, it’s hard to deny that the August 26 bout featuring two big talkers has dominated the sports headlines.
“No, no because this is big difference,” said Golovkin. “If you want to watch a comedy show or a business show, then please watch Mayweather and McGregor. Everybody understands that my fight with Canelo is a true fight, it is a boxing fight and is about respect and sport.”
While the fights are three weeks apart from each other, many people have made it an either or battle–but the fact remains that you can enjoy both bouts without much conflict.
And if you’re going the legal paid route for ordering each fight, you can probably get each PPV on two separate cable bill cycles.
Mayweather and his team have repeatedly stated that May-Mac battle is more than just a fight, something that most fans can agree with.
“This isn’t just a fight; this is an event,” said Mayweather during a recent media workout. “We both owe the fans and everyone tuning in a lot of excitement. That’s what we’re there to give them.”
On the other hand, Golovkin and company are playing up the fact that there is much more at stake in his Middleweight clash with Canelo.
“This is not a show, this is not a show at all. This is a true fight. There’s a big difference. I know people know this … [Sept. 16] is the more important time and more important date,” said Golovkin.
Will you be tuning in to watch Floyd Mayweather vs. Conor McGregor, Canelo Alvarez vs. Gennady Golovkin or both?
