Two weeks ago the boxing world thought Middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (32-0, 29 KOs) would be fighting Tureano Johnson on May 16.
Two days ago we were all surprised to hear it would be unknown-Argentine, Jorge Sebastian Heiland who was getting a shot at Golovkin’s titles.
But today we were all thrown for a loop when Golovkin announced via his official Twitter account that in fact he would be fighting his third option, Willie Monroe Jr. (19-1, 6 KOs).

It was made clear by Golovkin’s promoter Tom Loeffler that Golovkin would indeed fight four times this year, and obviously not all four fights would be against top competition.
Golovkin defeated England’s Martin Murray back on February 21 by 11th round knockout, and will be looking for bigger fights later in 2015, possibly against an opponent such as Canelo Alvarez, Miguel Cotto, David Lemieux or Andy Lee.
Monroe made his bones as a frequent showcase on ESPN2’s Friday Night Fights, winning the Middleweight Boxcino Tournament in 2014, and since defeated journeyman gate-keeper Bryan Vera back on January 15.
For the second time Golovkin will fight in California, this time at the famous Forum in Inglewood.
