Light heavyweights Gilberto Ramirez and Maxim Vlasov opened up HBO After Dark on Saturday, January 24, 2015, live in Denver.
Ramirez (31-0, 24 KOs) remained undefeated, keeping his title against Russia’s Maxim Vlasov (30-2, 15 KOs).
Both fighters, making their HBO debut, started off the fight with intensity.
Their reach made the first two rounds interesting as Ramirez tried to find a home for his short left look with Vlasov quick to counter back.
Later in the fight the pace slowed down, but Ramirez continued to land the cleaner shots to the body. Vlasov tried to chop at the body of Ramirez, but was often unsuccessful as he mostly touched the gloves of Ramirez.
The fight seemed to even out as both fighters fatigued, and couldn’t seem to capitalize on each other.
In the end, the judges scorecards read 96-94 and 97-93 twice, all for “Zurdo” Ramirez.
