Head-to-Head Discussion | Bermane Stiverne vs. Deontay Wilder

This Saturday night, January 17, 2015, boxing fans will be treated to one of the more anticipated Heavyweight showdowns in recent memory. Before Deontay Wilder and Bermane Stiverne slug it out, read Tony Calcara and Gabriel Polanco’s head-to-head breakdown of the fight.

Key #2 for Deontay Wilder Control the Action

By Tony Calcara

Second, Deontay Wilder must control the action and the pace of the fight. He should look to take command from the opening bell and be the boss by dictating everything that happens inside that ring.

By pressing Bermane Stiverne into the ropes, Wilder avoids clinches at mid-ring where Stiverne will definitely look to counter and bang away on the inside. To prevent an inside fight where he cannot get off his power punches and to avoid a lot of wrestling on the inside, Wilder should fight using his tools.

By employing his height and reach advantage, he can muscle the shorter Stiverne from a distance and control the pace. As Stiverne looks to counter, Wilder should let him tiptoe through the tulips, then let him smell the roses.

Oddsmakers have made Wilder a slight favorite Saturday night. The clash offers a variety of different questions to be answered by both fighters with the winner staring down the barrel at a shot against linear champion Wladimir Klitschko.

In a highly anticipated and exciting matchup that is sure to get every boxing fans blood boiling, be sure to be in your seat before the opening bell. The action promises to be fast and furious. Either fighter making it to the final bell is highly unlikely.

Key #2 for Bermane Stiverne Use Your Boxing Skills

By Gabriel Polanco

Bermane Stiverne must stay busy with the jab. He can’t let the taller man, Deontay Wilder, get off on him. Stiverne is the stronger man overall, and although he doesn’t have the one shot knockout power of Wilder, he is the still the stronger fighter.

I don’t believe the smaller framed Wilder can deal with constant pressure to the body. Stiverne is the better boxer out of the two fighters and he can use his in-ring intelligence to hold off Wilder long enough to knock him out.

Just like in the Chris Arreola fight, Stiverne used his boxing skills to beat a tough, game opponent. If uses his skills and experience, it should be a quick night and loss for the “Bronze Bomber.”

There are many questions concerning Wilder, Stiverne holds the key to all the answers.
