Mexican veteran and WBC Featherweight champion Jhonny Gonzalez (57-8, 48 KOs) will take on contender Gary Russell Jr. (25-1, 14 KOs) in a Showtime-televised double-header on March 28 at the Stub Hub Center in Carson, California.

The fight was announced as part of a new partnership between Al Haymon‘s Premier Boxing Championship, CBS and Showtime Sports.

Gonzalez, 33, who won his title in spectacular fashion with a first-round knockout of Abner Mares in 2013, is coming off two stoppage wins Clive Atwell and Jorge Arce.

Russell, 26, recent loss a unanimous decision to Vasyl Lomachenko in his first bid for a world title, but will look to make the most of a second opportunity.

Russell, of Washington, D.C., will seek to answer questions about his status as a professional Featherweight contender as his amateur style of quick and fast combinations largely cost him his fight with Lomachenko.

In the co main event, Junior Middleweights Jermell Charlo and Vanes Martirosyan will face off in a matchup between two highly-skilled contenders.

The winner will likely place himself in position for a world title shot in the near future.
