Jonathan Oquendo (25-4, 16 KOs) recovered from an early knockdown to earn a majority decision win against Johnny Gonzalez (58-9, 49 KOs) at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The 10-round Super Featherweight fight was the opening bout of the Showtime PPV event headlined by Mayweather vs. Berto.

Gonzalez, 33, did well early by keeping Oquendo at a distance, and scored a knockdown in Round 1 with a left uppercut.

Gonzalez seemed to be on the way to a dominant performance, but Oquendo came back in Round 2 to drop Gonzalez.

From then on, it was a back-and-forth fight, with Oquendo slowly getting the better of the exchanges going into the final round.

Both fought at close range, and both suffered cuts from headbutts, but it was Oquendo who did enough on the judges’ scorecards.

Oquendo, a 32-year-old of Puerto Rico, won with scores of 95-93 and 98-90, while one judge scored the fight a 94-94 draw.
