Jose Benavidez Jr. is defending his WBA interim Super Lightweight belt against Jorge Paez Jr. at the U.S Airways Centre in downtown Phoenix, Arizona on May 15, 2015.

Round By Round Boxing spoke with Benavidez at Iron Boy 20 and he vocalized his excitement to get back into the ring.

“I’m ready for the fight, I’m very excited to fight in front of my home crowd at the U.S Airways Centre and I’m going into this fight training hard and expecting a great fight.”

Benavidez also spoke on his controversial win over Mauricio Herrera.

“I felt I won the fight. I fought him hard and he hit me mostly on the elbows and my back. He never hurt me and I feel I fought the better fight and beat him.”

While he may have his detractors because of the Herrera fight, Benavidez says he doesn’t need to prove anything to the people that doubt his championship status.

“No, I treat every fight differently and I go into training camp with Paez Jr. only on mind. I could care less what they say, they’ll see soon enough on May 16.”
