On Saturday, May 21, 2016 from Auckland, New Zealand, Joseph Parker extended his unbeaten streak against his toughest test to date in Carlos Takam.
Parker won a tough unanimous decision, with scores of 116-112, 116-112 and 115-113.
The 24-year-old New Zealand native is now the mandatory challenger to Anthony Joshua‘s IBF Heavyweight title, a strap that Joshua will defend against Dominic Breazeale on June 25.
“I’m very excited,” said Parker after the bout (via Sky Sports). “I’d like to thank God for this victory. We’ve trained very hard and Takam came hard, strong and prepared. We did this for myself, my team and the supporters.”
If Joshua is able to defeat Breazeale, it sets up an interesting matchup against Parker, who like the UK native is a power-puncher with his best years seemingly in front of him.
“I still have a lot to learn” admitted Parker after his victory over Takam. “We’ll celebrate this victory and then get back to the gym and train.”
