It was a historic night in New York as Katie Taylor battled Amanda Serrano in front of a sold-out crowd of 19,187 at Madison Square Garden.
With only 10, two-minute rounds to work with, the fight got off to a blistering pace. Taylor boxed well early, but was drawn into a close-quarters slugfest in Round 5, which almost spelled the end for the Irish legend.
But, to her credit, Taylor recovered and behind intelligent boxing and counterpunching, was able to take many of later rounds.
In the end, Taylor edged Serrano via split decision in a fight that should easily be in the discussion for 2022 Fight of the Year.
The final scores saw one judge giving the fight to Serrano 96-94, and Taylor getting the nod on the other two cards–97-93 and 96-93.
