It was exciting while it lasted. Gervonta Davis (24-0, 23 KOs) and Leo Santa Cruz (37-2-1, 19 KOs) had some hellacious exchanges and certainly entertained the live crowd of over 9,000 fight fans at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas.
But, just as things were really beginning to heat up–and Santa Cruz was having arguably his best round–Davis unleashed a vicious uppercut which flattened Santa Cruz.
With the victory, Davis continues down the path guided by his promoter, Floyd Mayweather Jr. as he looks to explore options at 130 and 135.
For Santa Cruz, it was only his second career loss and his first by way of knockout.
