From the very beginning of the 14th attempted defense of his WBO Cruiserweight title at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey, Marco Huck (38-3, 16 KOs) seemed a bit off.
With a record like that, it seemed that the 30-year-old was headed towards a clear win, but Huck was backed up early in Round 1 of a scheduled 12-round co-main event of a PBC on Spike televised card.
Krzysztof Glowacki who, along with Huck, was making his U.S. debut, was dauntless as he pushed forward from his southpaw stance.
The Polish 29-year-old landed jabs and left hands to Huck’s body, and stunned him early with a right hook.
Glowacki took an early lead with his aggression, but it wasn’t just that–he threw straighter punches, and was simply doing the better boxing.
Huck, who was born in Serbia but calls Germany his home, managed to get back into the fight with a knockdown in Round 6 with a perfectly timed counter right hand.
Huck began finding the right hand more and more and was even ahead on Steve Farhood’s scorecard, but in Round 11, Glowacki landed a powerful left hand combination that badly hurt Huck.
Huck got back to his feet, but he was clearly out. Glowacki would nevertheless land another fight-finishing flurry, sending Huck nearly out the ropes.
Glowacki is now the WBO Cruiserweight champion.
