Lamont Roach Jr. Aims to Take Advantage of Golovkin-Lemieux Stage

Die-hard boxing fans will fill the “Mecca of Boxing,” Madison Square Garden, to watch a main event which promises to be one of the best all-action fights of the year.

Round By Round Boxing recently visited with undefeated Lightweight, Lamont Roach Jr. (8-0, 3 KOs) who is preparing for his next bout, which takes place on October 17, 2015 on the Gennady Golovkin vs. David Lemieux undercard.

Die-hard boxing fans are eagerly anticipating the opportunity to fill the “Mecca of Boxing,” Madison Square Garden, to watch a main event which promises to be one of the best all-action fights of the year.

For a notable prospect like the 20-year-old Roach, the chance to fight on such a stage is a welcome opportunity and one he can’t wait to take advantage of.

“I’m anticipating for the Garden to be sold out. The Garden is the Mecca of Boxing and there are going to be so many fans and [even though] I’ve fought on national television twice, this is just going to be a step up on a Pay-Per-View card,” said Roach.

A decorated amateur champion, the Washington, DC native is considered one of the best up-and-coming prospects in the Golden Boy Promotions stable. The former 11-time national amateur champion is 3-0 in 2015 and looks to continue his winning streak on Saturday at New York’s famed arena.

Roach will have to get past 24-year-old Jose “Flash” Bustos (7-5-3, 4 KOs) of Ciudad Juarez, Chihuahua, Mexico, who will oppose Lamont in a six-round lightweight bout.

Roach is no stranger to fighting in front of crazed fight fans, having fought earlier this year on the Lucas Matthysse vs. Ruslan Provodnikov card in Verona, NY.

On that night, Roach earned a decision victory over Jose Miguel Castro, which he followed up with a decision victory on national television over Christian Santibanez.

Supported by an experienced team, which includes his uncle and trainer, Bernard Roach, father Lamont Roach Sr. and his NoXcuse stablemates and fellow Golden Boy fighters, Kevin Rivers Jr. and D’Mitrius Ballard, Roach looks to continue his ascension towards contender status and an eventual title shot.

“People can expect to see a great boxer, a great performer and if I smell blood, I’m going for the kill. In 2016 I’m stepping up every fight, I’m not fighting cab drivers or ducks, I’m trying to get it.”
