On Saturday, June 17, 2017, Luis Arias (18-0, 9 KOs) took on Arif Magomedov (18-2, 11 KOs) in a scheduled 12-round bout.
The fight opened up the televised portion of the Andre Ward vs. Sergey Kovalev 2 HBO Pay-Per-View telecast.
Arias, who before the fight spoke with Round By Round Boxing and promised to make a statement, kept his word.
Arias, who fired off over 50 punches in the first round, outclassed Magomedov from the opening bell.
By Round 3, Arias began finding a home for hooks to the body and solid uppercuts upstairs.
In Round 5, Arias hurt and dropped Magomedov with a number of powerful hooks.
Magomedov did beat the count, but it wasn’t long before Arias jumped on him and landed more thudding shots, forcing referee Robert Byrd to jump in and stop the bout.
With the stoppage win, Arias officially stamps his place as a contender to watch in the Middleweight division.
