Manuel Avila (17-0, 7 KOs) scored a 10-round unanimous decision victory over Erik Ruiz (13-3, 6 KOs) in Golden Boy Promotions‘ third installment of LA Fight Club at the Belasco Theater in Los Angeles, California.

The sold-out show was televised by Fox Sports 1 in the U.S.

Avila, 23, of Vallejo, California, used footwork and a quick jab to land counter punches from the outside, outboxing Ruiz in nearly every round.

Ruiz, 24, Oxnard, California, had lots of trouble closing the distance and was caught several times coming in.

Ruiz, who is trained by Robert Garcia, could not solve the boxing puzzle that moved before him as Avila landed more effective punches throughout the fight.

Avila won with three scores of 100-90 and continued his undefeated streak.

In the co-main event, Super Bantamweight Diego De La Hoya (10-0, 6 KOs) scored an 8-round unanimous decision win over Ramiro Robles (12-3-1, 7 KOs).

Robles had previously given a tough fight to 2012 Olympian Joseph Diaz Jr. back in 2014, and tonight his toughness was displayed again as he went eight hard rounds with the young prospect.

De La Hoya, the cousin of Oscar De La Hoya, landed power shots in the opening rounds that hurt Robles, but instead of scoring a stoppage, the 20-year-old native of Mexicali, Mexico, spent the rest of the fight outlanding his opponent.

De La Hoya landed overhand rights and left hooks, but Robles continued fighting despite taking a lot of punishment.

Nevertheless, De La Hoya won with three scores of 80-72 and continues his undefeated streak.

In the first televised fight, Oscar Negrete (9-0, 3 KOs) scored a fifth-round technical decision over Luis Maldonado (36-15-1, 27 KOs) after a bad cut caused by a headbutt forced referee Zac Young to stop the fight and go to the score cards.

In Round 1, Maldonado was cut on the scalp due to an accidental headbutt. The veteran was cut again on the nose in Round 3 from a punch.

Then, in another turn of unfortunate events for Maldonado, he was cut above the right eyebrow due to another headbutt.

Despite the fight’s ending, Negrete was clearly outclassing him, and so was able to walk away with scores of 50-46, 50-45 and 50-45.
