Mayweather vs. Maidana II – Will it be Mayhem or Quite the Contrary?

Four months since their somewhat controversial first encounter, Floyd Mayweather and Marcos Maidana return to the MGM Grand arena this Saturday, September 13, 2014.

Four months since their somewhat controversial first encounter, Floyd Mayweather and Marcos Maidana return to the MGM Grand arena this Saturday, September 13, 2014 to attempt to silence any doubts that have been lingering from their first bout, which saw Mayweather outpoint his Argentinian counterpart back on that fateful “May Day” weekend.

In what unexpectedly turned out to be an interesting affair, Maidana was able to push Mayweather more than he has been pushed in years and even in defeat, Maidana caused enough excitement to force Saturday night’s rematch.

But with all the hype, can we really expect the sequel to overshadow the prequel or will one of the biggest fights of the year fail to impress?

When Mayweather vs. Maidana I was first announced, the boxing world rolled their eyes, anticipating yet another routine dominant Mayweather win. Even with Maidana coming off a career best performance against the former undefeated Mayweather clone, Adrien Broner, it was still widely believed that “Chino” would not have the same success against boxing’s pound-for-pound best.

However it turned out the similar unorthodox style which solved “The Problem” gave Mayweather some issues as well.It was only the 37 year old’s impeccable ability to adjust to Maidana’s relentless style mid-fight which saw Mayweather eventually pull away and win the fight.

There have been many conflicting views about who the winner was that night, as some pundits were confident that Maidana’s aggression won him the fight and others were swayed by Mayweather’s accuracy.

Nevertheless on Saturday night, both men will have another opportunity to set the record straight once and for all.

So with each man eager to impress, can we really expect “Mayhem” in the ring or will it be quite the contrary?

Well, although the undercard has names like Leo Santa Cruz and Alfredo Angulo propping it up, there is very little attention circulating around these bouts due to the level of opposition these men are facing.

Most importantly, in the main event, the fact that Floyd Mayweather has already spent 12 rounds with the Argentinian hard man, just like he did all those years ago against Jose Luis Castillo, will be key as I believe Mayweather will win a lop-sided unanimous decision to prove to the critics that the right man won.

There have been whispers that the distractions outside of boxing will catch up on “Money May” this Saturday. However, even though it may be mayhem outside of the ring for Mayweather, there is no doubt that he is well and truly at peace inside of it.
