SAN ANTONIO — Miguel Flores (19-0, 9 KOs) is still undefeated, but not unblemished after a ruckus of a scrap with Mario Briones (27-5-2, 20 KOs).

Flores, who made the trip to San Antonio from Houston, was the clear winner but the wide scores the judges turned in don’t tell the entire story.

Sergio Mora, a Fox Sports 1 announcer and former world champion, told RBRBoxing after the fight, “That was the most one-sided exciting fight there is.”

The rabid fans in attendance would agree, cheering on the combatants for the entire 10 rounds. Especially following the violent exchanges in close quarters.

Flores, who fought on Fox Sports 1 back in October, belted away to the body of his opponent like he was digging a grave. The crypt would seem to have Briones’ name on it but the Mexican fired back with spite every chance he could.

Briones, who has been in the ring with former WBA light flyweight strap holder Roberto Vasquez and title challenger AJ Banal, popped Flores’ head back in Round 7 that detonated a splatter of sweat that seemed to reach the second row.

The 23-year-old Flores answered back time-and-time again. Mostly with a stunning series of murderous hooks; right hook, left hook… and two or three more left digs to Briones’ body.

Briones, seven years Flores’ elder, fought through a huge gash over his left eye. After a clash of heads in the final stanza, Briones stumbled around and the fight looked to be over.

But Briones didn’t quit.

Flores was there too, pelting away at his target, war paint sliding down the left side of his face and all.

Robert Garcia, another Fox Sports 1 announcer and esteemed boxing trainer, was impressed with the action.

“Flores dominated the fight,” Garcia told RBRBoxing. “But Briones never gave up. Flores clearly won, but it was a great fight.”

Flores will make his way back to Main Street Boxing Gym in downtown Houston with just one more win than he left with but countless more fans.
