Friday, January 24, 2014, Main Events and NBC Sports Network presented their first Fight Night card of the year, headlined by Curtis Stevens (26-4, 19 KOs) vs. Patrick Majewski (21-3, 13 KOs).
This match was billed as a redemption of sorts for Stevens who dropped a disappointing fight against Gennady Golovkin by RTD at the end of 2013.
Stevens wasted no time getting into a groove and letting his hands go.
He dropped Majewski 12 seconds into the fight which was setup by a nice feint, followed by a stiff jab that landed flush on the jaw.
The second knockdown came a few seconds later after Stevens came forward throwing a barrage of punches, which Majewski simply could not handle.
Majewski got off the canvas only to be knocked down again, forcing the referee to stop the fight.
Majewski, who is six years older than Stevens and is also the bigger man, was supposed to provide more resistance in Stevens’ comeback fight.
The official stoppage came at 46 seconds of Round 1 and if we were able to learn anything from the quick bout, it is that Stevens was able to put the loss to GGG behind him.
Bill Johnson–Majewski’s trainer–exchanged some verbal jabs with Stevens during the weigh in, but like “Showtime” told Johnson, the trainer can’t fight for his fighter.
During the post-fight interview, Stevens was asked about a possible matchup against WBO Champion, Peter “Kid Chocolate” Quillin to which Stevens said, “I’ll make his as* milk chocolate.”
Those are certainly fighting words.
It remains to be seen whether Quillin would be willing to fight the Brownsville heavy hitter, but it would certainly be an entertaining fight as is always the case when Curtis Stevens steps into the ring.
This much is true: @Showtime_Curtis Stevens is must see TV
