PBC on FS1: Williams Makes a Statement, Batters Cuello in 1 Round

In the first televised fight of the evening, rugged Moises Flores from Guadalajara, Mexico (24-0, 17 KOs) squared off against Argentina’s Luis Emmanuel Cusolito (21-1, 19 KOs) to defend his newly acquired WBA interim Super Bantamweight Championship.

In the PBC on FS1 main event, Julian “J Rock” Williams (21-0-1, 13 KOs) of Philadelphia, PA ducked between the ropes to meet Argentine Luciano Cuello (35-4, 17 KOs) for a scheduled 10 round bout.

Cuello entered the ring wearing camouflage trunks, but he was unable to hide from the constant barrage of shots rained upon him by Williams from the opening bell.

Cuello followed Williams around with his hands up, but offering nothing resembling an offense as J Rock landed flush shots around and between his gloves.

Williams quickly found the sweet spot and buckled Cuello’s knees. Williams jumped on him immediately and five unanswered over hand rights wisely convinced the referee to call an end to the massacre at 1:33 of the first round.

In his post-fight interview, Williams exclaimed that he would like to fight Austin “No Doubt” Trout, but if that fight couldn’t be made that he will take on anyone else in the division in newly crowned IBF champion, Jermall Charlo.

Caleb “Sweet Hands” Plant (10-0, 8 KOs) clashed with Jamar Freeman (13-5-2, 7 KOs) is a scheduled eight-round affair.

Plant pushed forward through the first round flashing combinations and breaking into a spontaneous dance toward the end of the round while Freeman picked his shots and waited for openings.

In the third round Plant maneuvered Freeman into the corner and opened up with a sharp combination that put Freeman on the canvas at the end of the round. As the bell rang Plant began dancing again on his way to his corner.

Freeman had flashes of success, but Plant dominated the vast majority of the action and emerged victorious by unanimous decision with scores of 79-72, 80-71, 80-71.

In the first televised fight of the evening, rugged Moises Flores from Guadalajara, Mexico (24-0, 17 KOs) squared off against Argentina’s Luis Emmanuel Cusolito (21-2, 19 KOs) to defend his newly acquired WBA interim Super Bantamweight championship.

The first several rounds provided sustained action with Flores looking for a home for his uppercut and Cusolito investing in working Flores’ body.

Flores consistently pressed the action through Round 8 with sustained combination punching while Cusolito connected well with stiff jabs and combinations behind a high guard.

Despite landing a number of clean shots and sporting a gaudy 86 percent knockout ratio, Cusolito had yet to seriously hurt “Chucky” Flores up to that point.

The two fighters took turns taking control of the action throughout in an evenly matched, high energy, fan friendly fight with virtually no clinching.

In Round 12, Flores connected with a left hook that shook Cusolito and followed up with several other clean shots that clearly had the challenger in trouble. The referee jumped in to save Cusolito from further damage in what appeared to be a somewhat premature stoppage.
