PBC on FS1: Uzcategui Scores Impressive TKO Over Jackson

The Tuesday, October 6, 2015 edition of Premier Boxing Champions on Fox Sports 1 featured Julius Jackson taking on Jose Uzcategui.

Jackson vs. Uzcategui

The main event of Premier Boxing Champions on Fox Sports 1 showcased a heavy-hitting super middleweight clash between Julius “The Chef” Jackson (19-1, 15 KOs) of the Virgin Islands and Venezuelan Jose Uzcategui (24-1, 20 KOs) who clashed to determine which would be crowned KO King for the evening.

Coming into tonight’s fight, Jackson had stopped his last nine opponents and 11 out of Uzcategui’s last 12 victories came inside the distance.

The opening stanza didn’t disappoint and the fireworks started immediately. Both fighters exchanged heavy blows and Uzcategui landed first, dropping Jackson.

The Chef rose and was subsequently knocked down two more times and appeared to be close to a stoppage defeat in the first round. Jackson fought back gamely and held intelligently to survive the round.

The second round picked up where the first ended and Uzcategui pressed the attack against Jackson who was still hurt from the prior round’s onslaught.

Jackson got caught again and went down heavily on his back. Referee Tony Weeks had seen enough and rescued Jackson from further punishment at :45 of the round.

Cowboy Karl Ryan

Undefeated welterweight Ryan “Cowboy” Karl (10-0, 7 KOs) stepped in front of his hometown crowd against Alfonso Olvera (4-2, 2 KOs) in action scheduled for six rounds.

In the third round Olvera lost his mouthpiece courtesy of a Karl left hook in another round of give and take action.

Olvera was caught by a sharp right hand in the fifth round that hurt him and went down for a count of nine. He fought back gamely and survived the round.

In an entertaining scrap Karl was announced the winner by unanimous decision by the scores of 58-55, 59-54, 59-54

In lightweight action to open up the Tuesday, October 6, 2015 edition of Premier Boxing Champions on Fox Sports 1, tough Mexican Miguel Vazquez (35-5, 13 KOs) entered the ring hoping to vanquish his Dominican rival Argenis Mendez (23-3-1, 12 KOs) in less than the scheduled 10 rounds.

Though both men are former champions, the edge in experience tipped in Vazquez’s favor having faced a very young Canelo Alvarez twice, Bredis Prescott and current IBF World Lightweight champion Mickey Bey.

The first several rounds were contested at an even if not unspectacular level and Vasquez being warned for headbutting. The warning seemingly had no effect however as his head still found Mendez’s forehead and brow consistently.

By Round 7 there was no clear, dominant fighter and Vazquez was penalized one point for holding.

Going into the 10th round it was anyone’s fight and neither established dominance over the other or gained any momentum as the final seconds ticked away.

The judges ended up scoring the fight a unanimous decision for Algenis Mendez by scores of 99-90, 97-92, 95-94.
