Peter Quillin (32-0-1, 23 KOs) returned to the ring with a fifth-round knockout victory over Micheal Zerafa (17-2, 9 KO) at the Foxwoods Resort in Mashantucket, Connecticut.

The scheduled 12-round Super Middleweight fight–held at a catch weight of 163 pounds–was the main event of the September 12 edition of PBC on NBC.

Quillin, 32, made easy work in what was a stay-busy fight, though he was hit with quick right hands early.

Zerafa, a 23-year-old native of Australia, was overmatched, overwhelmed and undersized. However, he was still undaunted, and boxed early behind a quick jab against Quillin.

Zerafa managed to land combinations before making Quillin miss with his countershots, but it was only a matter of time before Zerafa was caught with a good shot that hurt him.

Instead of holding on to Quillin, Zerafa began to exchange and was backed up to the ropes, where a thunderous right hand knocked him down hard.

The referee immediately stopped the fight, and Zerafa was taken out on a stretcher and sent to the hospital as a precautionary measure.

“It is hard to celebrate to a performance like that especially when someone is leaving on a stretcher. Unfortunately, that is part of the game. I just keep great sportsmanship and pray that he gets better and gets home to Australia safe and sound,” said Quillin.

Zerafa was released later that day and is fine, but he clearly had no business in the ring with Quillin.

“What’s important is that i’m ready for Danny Jacobs. Now its time for Brooklyn to see me and Daniel Jacobs. We’ve waited for a long time for it,” said Quillin.

“I like Danny because I’m a big fan of his. But business is business unfortunately,” concluded Quillin.

The fight will take place at the Barclays Center on December 5 and Jacobs, who holds the WBA Middleweight title, had some words to say himself.

“December 5 at Barclays Center. I’m the champion and he’s the challenger,” said Jacobs.

“I’m a mover, I’m a power puncher, I have a high boxing IQ. He has trouble with guys that move and I can think on the fly,” Said Jacobs.
