On training for Cotto versus Golovkin
“We thought we’d take a little bit of extra time, getting used to the time difference. Last time it worked okay, but maybe we were a little rushed but this time we’ll definitely be alright.”
“The game plan is to go in and fight my fight. We don’t want to sucked in and caught up in anything he’s doing. I just want to do what I do best. I’ve got to box to the best of my ability”
On sparring
“We have guys like Tureano [Johnson], Francisco [Santana], we’re getting all the variations. We know Cotto can box, but in this fight we know he’s going to come at me.”
On fighting for the Middleweight title
“I really want this one badly. It’s something that we’ve wanted for a while. I just gotta worry about my job and get myself in the condition for the fight.”
“This is going to be a huge fight for me. Fighting Miguel, you know, he’s fought great fighters and I get to go in and test myself against him.”
On his future
Daniel Geale: “I’m just worried about this fight at the moment. I’m taking one fight at a time and whoever comes next I’m ready for those guys.”
Gary Shaw: “If he [Geale] wins, Cotto has a rematch clause so the question is if Cotto wants an immediate rematch then that’s what he gets. If not, according to the WBC, it would be GGG again. But it doesn’t make a difference, look Daniel is willing to fight anybody, anywhere. He went to Germany and fought Sturm on his territory, he’s coming to Cotto’s, which New York is his town.”
To his fans
“It’s going ot be a great show, the fans will get what they wants.”
“Tune into a great fight. Everytime I come over, I’m here to fight. It’s going to be a great night of boxing and the fans will be excited.”
