Guillermo Rigondeaux

Rigondeaux Makes a Statement in His Returning Fight, Knocking out Delgado in 1

After his convincing defeat at the hands of Vasiliy Lomachenko in 2017, Guillermo “El Chacal” Rigondeaux (18-1, 12 KO) was seemingly erased from existence.

Every social media account used by the Cuban fighter remained untouched for the entirety of 2018.

Nobody knew what to make of the ex-champion in the wake of his disappearance. Then, seemingly out of the blue, it was announced that he would be returning to fight in early 2019.

For the boxing purists, many kept their eyes on this fight to see if he was capable of returning to the dominant heights he was once at.

When El Chacal met Giovanni Delgado in the ring tonight, he answered their questions. He stalked down his opponent for most of the first round, then proceeded to land a heavy left hook to the temple of Delgado just before the bell rang, dropping the 27 year old.

Delgado failed to rise from the canvas before the count of 10, and the fight was waved off.

Hopefully we will be able to see Rigondeaux step into the ring against higher competition soon, but tonight, he took the first step in returning into the limelight of boxing.
