There are fireworks unquestionably guaranteed on January 24, 2015 as round three of the epic Brandon Rios vs. Mike Alvarado trilogy nears its inevitable climax.
After providing fans with two utterly pulsating contests, the score is even, so both Rios and Alvarado are now ready to face off for the final time to establish who will reign supreme.
This eagerly anticipated matchup was almost scuppered on the eleventh hour as “Mile High” was arrested following an outstanding warrant in his hometown of Denver. Luckily though, to the relief of everyone involved, the arrest has not hindered the upcoming showdown, which goes ahead as planned.
It is true that both fighters are far from the two undefeated starlets they were when they first went toe-to-toe at the Home Depot Center in 2012. Since then, Alvarado has been blitzed by the heavy-handed Ruslan Provodnikov, as well as being outwitted by the wise old fox, Juan Manual Marquez in his previous two bouts.
Unfortunately, it hasn’t been much better for Rios either, who followed his defeat against Alvarado with an inadequate display against the Filipino icon, Manny Pacquiao, who schooled the bulldozing Rios for the full 12 rounds.
Nevertheless, regardless of where they are in their respective careers, Rios and Alvarado are destined to provide the boxing world with a relentless back-and-forth tussle that will undeniably have us salivating for however long it lasts.
In the sport of boxing, it is refreshing to see a masterful display of boxing ability, which is what we get when we watch the likes of Guillermo Rigondeaux, Andre Ward and Floyd Mayweather.
