ROACH: “MANNY’S FOOTWORK IS BETTER THAN ANYONE’S”

Manny Pacquiao (62-7-2, 39 KOs) is hard at work preparing for his title bout against the undefeated IBF and WBC Welterweight champion, Errol Spence Jr. (27-0, 21 KOs).

Pacquiao’s trainer, Freddie Roach, recently stated that a key to victory for Pac will be his footwork (via Yahoo Sports).

“Manny’s footwork is better than anyone’s,” said Roach. “He’s on his toes and he can do it for 12 rounds.”

It’s easy to imagine a vintage Pacquiao bouncing around the ring for 12 rounds, but at this late stage of his career, Pac might not have enough gas in the tank to work the angles like we’re used to seeing.

Regardless, if Pacquiao can bring the level of energy he did against Keith Thurman, it should make for an interesting fight on August 21.

Roach also feels that Spence is flat-footed, which actually isn’t hard to agree with. But, whether Pacquiao can take advantage of that remains to be seen.
