In the main event of the Friday, November 21 edition of truTV’s Friday Night Knockout fights, undefeated southpaw Gilberto Ramirez (33-0, 24 KOs) took on Gevorg Khatchikian in super middleweight action (23-2, 11 KOs).
Ramirez appeared to be in charge from the opening stanza, though by no means did he establish clear dominance.
This changed over the next several rounds as Ramirez chopped to the body and cuffed his opponent to the head.
By Round 6 Ramirez was clearly in front. While Khatchikian continued to be competitive, he seemed to be submitting to the role of game, trial-horse and appeared just happy to be there.
There was no surprise when the cards revealed Ramirez as the winner by unanimous decision with scores of 100-90, 100-90 and 99-91.
After the fight, Ramirez stated that he feels ready to take on Arthur Abraham or Martin Murray for the WBO title.
Abraham defends his title on Saturday, November 21 in Germany against Murray.
In an impressive showing that kicked off the truTV telecast, Lightweight Saul “Kid Dinamita” Rodriguez (19-0-1, 14 KOs) made easy work of Ivan “Bam Bam” Najera (16-2,8 KOs).
Rodriguez dropped Najera twice and secured a stoppage victory half-way through Round 1.
