Roman Gonzalez Makes HBO Debut with 2nd-Round Knockout

Roman Gonzalez (43-0, 37 KOs) stopped Edgar Sosa (51-9, 30 KOs) tonight in the second round of a scheduled 12-round fight to defend his RING and WBC Flyweight titles at the Forum in Inglewood, California.

There is a little known top 10 pound-for-pound fighter who has been making waves in three divisions before making his HBO debut tonight.

That fighter is Roman Gonzalez (43-0, 37 KOs), who stopped Edgar Sosa (51-8, 30 KOs) tonight in the second round of a scheduled 12-round fight to defend his RING and WBC Flyweight titles at the Forum in Inglewood, California.

Gonzalez is generally regarded as one of the best fighters in the world in any division, and furthered that reputation as he easily walked through Sosa.

In Round 1, Gonzalez pushed forward and landed right and left hands that wobbled Sosa immediately. Gonzalez managed to put Sosa on the canvas, but it was not ruled a knockdown.

In Round 2, Gonzalez finished the work already laid out in the previous round as he dropped Sosa twice before the fight was stopped.

“This was a very important fight because it was on the biggest network, HBO, so I wanted people to see my talent,” said Gonzalez about his debut on HBO.

The 27-year-old Nicaraguan champion remains undefeated and a fight with Naoya Inoue or a rematch with Juan Francisco Estrada may be in his future, but Gonzalez leaves that up to his promoter.
