Shields-Habazin | Habazin’s Trainer James Ali Bashir Knocked Out At Weigh-In, Fight Likely Off

On Friday, October 4, 2019, Claressa Shields and Ivana Habazin were set to hit the scales ahead of their championship matchup on Saturday night.

The fight, which according to Lance Pugmire of The Athletic is now postponed, was a special one for Shields because it was set to take place in Flint, Michigan–her hometown.

Looking like @Claressashields fight is getting postponed due to opponent’s injured trainer but the card will continue with @JaronEnnis and heavyweight Jermain Franklin in main and co-main. Final decision imminent.

What started as a verbal altercation between Shields’ sister and Habazin’s trainer, Bashir Ali, ended with Ali on the ground in a pool of blood.

According to multiple sources on the scene, Bashir was hit from behind.

Showtime Sports, who was set to televise the fight, has not released a statement as of yet.

UPDATE: According to Lance Pugmire, the fight between Shields and Habazin has been called off.
