Knockout artist Shohjahon Ergashev (16-0, 14 KOs) couldn’t knock out his opponent Mykal Fox (19-1, 5 KOs), but he did just enough to win on the scorecards in Mulvane, Kansas on Friday, February 15, 2019.
It was a competitive bout with the scorecards detailing just that. Scores for the contest were 96-94 and two scores of 98-92, all in favor of Ergashev.
It was a true back-and-forth affair between these two as they both had their moments. It was clear from the beginning that the game plan for Fox was to stay away from the power of his opponent.
With a five inch reach advantage it was a sound game plan. Early on Fox was able to stay out of harms way while landing his jab and fighting an awkward fight.
As the fight went on, Ergashev began to find a home for his big shots, but Fox took them very well. Ergashev seemed determined to press forward no matter how many jabs he ate in the process.
Things began to get a bit chippy between the two at the end of Round 6 as they began to jaw at one another. From that point on both men gave their all to convince the judges that they should be the victor. Unfortunately for Fox he just didn’t do enough to sway the judges.
Fox was a tricky opponent for Ergashev to figure out. The knockout power Ergashev possess is evident, but winning a decision could benefit him in the long run.
It was a solid performance by Ergashev as he did just enough to keep his undefeated record. He will undoubtedly look to move on to bigger and better fights.
