In the main event of Saturday, February 15th edition of UniMas’ Solo Boxeo, Diego Magdaleno took on Jorge Pazos in a scheduled 10 round fight.

Early on, Magdaleno took a cerebral approach to feel out his opponent who took the fight on only one week’s notice. Throughout the early rounds, Magdaleno fought off his back foot and countered his opponent hard to the body and cross to the head.

Magdaleno stepped it up in the third, dropping Pazos with a combination ending with a thudding hook to the temple.

Pazos, surviving the round, attempted to box in the fourth, but was again caught in a fire fight in the fifth. Pazos dropped to a knee after a body shot that echoed through the entire event center and was counted out by referee Jeffrey Cantu.

Magdaleno raises his record to 25-1, 10 KOs, while Pazos drops to 14-7, 9 KOs.

After the fight, speaking with Solo Boxeo’s Jaime Motta, Magdaleno and trainer Joel Diaz both stated that they would like to try for a title by the end of the year.

Opening up the telecast was 2012 Olympic silver medalist Esquiva Falcao, who out-muscled and stopped Joshua Robertson (5-5, 1 KO) in the fourth round of a six round fight.

It was a very impressive debut for the Brazilian as he was systematically breaking Robertson down.

Not that Robertson was just standing there absorbing punishment, as he would land a straight right here and there, but he was constantly getting tagged as the fight continued.

Falcao really went on the offensive in the fourth, putting it on Robertson and backing him against the ropes.

While not throwing back and getting pounded against the ropes, referee Jerry Cantu stepped in and stopped the bout at 2:46 of the fourth round.

Also on the card was Diego’s brother, Jessie Magdaleno. The younger Magdaleno stopped Roberto Castaneda in the fifth round of a scheduled 10 round fight.

Magdaleno was hitting Castaneda with everything and anything at any moment he wanted, as he dropped Castaneda twice in the second.

Both knockdowns were caused by counter hooks, while Castaneda kept trying to make it a brawl and was sniped pretty well.

Castaneda was able to get up and attempted to fight back, yet the cool Magdaleno stayed back and made his opponent come to him.

In the fifth round, Magdaleno dropped Castaneda to a knee and he could not get up.

Referee Jack Reiss waved the bout at 2:48. Jessie Magdaleno improves to 18-0, 14 KOs, while Roberto Castaneda drops to 20-6-1, 15 KOs.
