In a sensational 12-round bout with non-stop action, Srisaket Sor Rungvisai (45-4-1, 40 KOs) retained his WBC world Super Flyweight title with a majority decision win over Juan Francisco Estrada (36-3, 25 KOs) in the main event of HBO’s Boxing After Dark at The Fabulous Forum in Inglewood, California.
The exciting Thai fighter also captured the vacant Ring Junior Bantamweight title with the narrow win. One judge scored it 114-114, while the two other judges scored it 115-113 and 117-111 in favor of Sor Rungvisai.
“It was a very good fight, he hits very hard and I like his style,” said Sor Rungvisai. “The difference between now and other points in my career is now I have the support of the people of Thailand.”
The Thai southpaw asserted himself early but Estrada landed several hard shots in Round 2. The action picked up in the third round as Estrada connected with a hard left uppercut before Sor Rungvisai would answer with straight left hands.
Estrada took several big shots in the fourth round as Sor Rungvisai continued to attack the body. Round 5 was another action-packed round with both fighters exchanging powerful blows.
SuperFly 2 thrilled the pro Estrada crowd. Every time he landed a punch, the fans would roar with excitement. Estrada’s superior boxing skills were not enough against the power and skill of Sor Rungvisai as he built an early lead on the scorecards.
“The people are the judges and you can hear them that they saw me win,” said Estrada. “I felt I was the winner.”
While Estrada tried to storm back, Sor Rungvisai would respond with three and four-punch combinations and effective counter punching.
“If the judges saw it that way it is what it is but I felt I won the majority of the rounds,” said Estrada. “People saw what happened.”
Sor Rungvisai said he will fight anybody at 115 pounds, including giving Estrada a rematch if that’s what he wants.
“Without a doubt, I want the rematch or I’ll fight any other champion,” said Estrada.
