Carl Frampton vs. Alejandro Gonzalez

Brandon Glass, Contributing Writer

Let me first point out, Alejandro Gonzalez is a 25 to 1 underdog. This is obviously a showcase fight for Carl Frampton, as the Scott Quigg negotiations went sour.

Stylistically this matchup favors Frampton, who uses footwork and movement to frustrate opponents. Gonzalez is looking to come forward and exchange in the pocket, which can only work against him with a boxer-puncher like Frampton.

Although Gonzalez has a solid record of 25-1, he’s been fighting exclusively in Mexico against opponents most of us have never heard of.  That said, Gonzalez is simply not on the level of a fighter with Frampton’s skill sets and experience, even though Gonzalez has had more fights.

Prediction: Frampton

My quick summation here is that Carl Frampton is simply a better fighter. He brings with him a better skill set and has faced far better competition than Alejandro Gonzalez.

I like Frampton here, most likely by stoppage.

Prediction: Frampton

IBF Bantamweight champion Carl Frampton will not need the luck of the Irish to notch his second successful title defense against Alejandro Gonzalez.

They both have nice records, not that it is the true litmus test of a fighter’s ability. This is the situation in Gonzalez’s case as his experience came against less seasoned rivals than Frampton.

That will play a big part in this fight and “The Jackal” will take a bite out of Gonzalez around Round 8 when he stops the challenger.

Prediction: Frampton

Alex Burgos, Editor-in-Chief

Carl Frampton is a legitimate champion and one of the best 122-pound fighters in the world. Against Alejandro Gonzalez he’ll be able to showcase his ability for a brand new audience. With Al Haymon and PBC behind him, the sky is the limit for “The Jackal.”

If Gonzalez can get Frampton to exchange early on we might see some two-sided action (for a bit), but ultimately Frampton puts an exclamation point on his showcase with a knockout victory.

Prediction: Frampton
