Staff Predictions for Seth Mitchell vs. Chris Arreola

On Saturday, September 7, 2013, Seth “Mayhem” Mitchell (26-1-1, 19 KOs) and Chris Arreola (34-3, 30 KOs) headline a battle of Heavyweights on a special edition of Showtime Boxing.

Although Chris Arreola is coming off a loss, I believe he is determined. Seth Mitchell recently claimed redemption to overcome his most recent loss.

Comparing power and accuracy in this matchup–Arreola wins by fifth-round TKO.

Pick: Arreola

I’m taking Seth Mitchell in this one! Arreola is a big puncher with a good knockout ratio, but Seth Mitchell has the same abilities and better overall boxing skills.

So, I am taking Seth Mitchell by decision.

Pick: Mitchell

I’m gonna go with Arreola by stoppage between the fourth and sixth round.

This will be an exciting fight as result of putting two B Level heavyweights in the ring with one another.  Arreola isn’t very defensively responsible and Mayhem has a suspect chin.

Mitchell always gets into trouble early in his fights and this fight will be no different, though unlike his second fight against Banks, Arreola will finish the job.  My heart wants to think Seth will pull out this win, my eyes have seen his glass jaw busted before and my fingers are typing Arreola in 5!

Pick: Arreola

Alex Burgos, Editor in Chief

Both Seth Mitchell and Chris Arreola need a win. It’s going to be a battle of wills and come down to who can force the other to fight their fight. Arreola needs to put the pedal to the metal for 12 rounds and give Mitchell no room to breathe.

Mitchell needs to establish a stiff jab early on to get Arreola’s respect and follow it up with crisp rights all night long. If Arreola gets frustrated, I don’t think he will have a plan B. I give Mitchell the edge and think he gets a big win by majority decision.

Pick: Mitchell

Mitchell has shown that he can overcome adversity and outbox an opponent who previously knocked him out. Mitchell’s second fight with Banks illustrates that he can make adjustments and that he can avoid the reckless mistakes that cost him his first fight.

However, he doesn’t have the best chin, which will be dangerous against Chris Arreola. If we see the same tentativeness that won him the second fight with Banks, then I predict he’ll walk away with a decision. If he fights recklessly, Arreola will knock him out.

Pick: Mitchell

Heavyweight Chris Arreola (35-3, 30 KOs) will collide with Seth Mitchell (26-1-1, 19 KOs) in a crucial fight. Both fighters need this fight, it is a do or die for both Heavyweights.

A win will lead to a title shot. Chris Arreola will need to establish the jab. Arreola has a solid chin and Mitchell has a suspect chin. Arreola will defeat Mitchell in Round 4 by knockout.

Pick: Arreola
