Mauricio Herrera vs. Hank Lundy
Tony Calcara, Staff Writer
Vegas money has Mauricio Herrera (21-5, 7 KOs) the favorite Saturday night behind his long, educated jab. Hank Lundy (25-4-1, 12 KOs) has a good chin and won’t be hard to find.
I think this one goes to the scorecards with Herrera winning a decision.
Prediction: Herrera

Really good fight between two very good fighters. Herrera would have probably been 2014’s fighter of the year if he hadn’t been dicked sideways by judges in multiple fights. Lundy comes to fight every time out, and despite neither guy being much of a puncher, it should be a high-output, fun little scrap. Herrera’s age is concerning, but I think he’s the better fighter. I expect another tight one for the judges. Hopefully nobody is drunk as shit while scoring it. Herrera by split decision.

This is a tough pick. Both Mauricio Herrera and Hank Lundy have awkward styles and have been on the losing end of some questionable decisions in past fights.
This fight will be a spectacle. Guaranteed. I also guarantee it goes the distance. Lundy has certain advantages–in speed and age. His ability to switch stances would give him an edge, if Herrera didn’t also practice the same method.
The edge has to go to Herrera, who’s got experience against better competition. Also, Herrera’s no spring chicken. At 35, he may not get many more opportunities to be a true world champion.

It’s hard not to like Hank Lundy’s give no quarter throwback mentality, but the very talented Mauricio Herrera should box circles around him. Let’s just hope the poor guy gets the decision this time.

Mauricio Herrera (21-5, 7 KOs) steps back into the ring Saturday and will clash with Hank Lundy (25-4-1, 12 KOs) at the Sports Arena in Los Angeles, California.
Both men have lost three out of their past six fights, but two of Herrera’s recent losses have been the result of piss poor judging.
It’s safe to say that the night will not end early, and although Lundy will definitely bring his best in hopes of securing a win, Herrera will make the judges job an easy one. Herrera by decision.

This is a great matchup because both Mauricio Herrera and Hank Lundy need a big win–and the best part is that they both know it and will let it all hang out.
Herrera–along with most of the boxing community–feels like he can’t catch a break after dropping a few bad decisions against Danny Garcia and Jose Benavidez. I expect Herrera to come out aggressive and try to make sure the judges don’t screw him over this time.
Lundy is a scrappy and fun fighter to watch, and while he’s had multiple opportunities to move closer to the top-tier of his division, he’s blown more shots than Karrine Steffans. He talks a phenomenal game so hopefully–win, lose or draw–we see more of him.
Although Herrera is older, I think he’s more savvy and understands what he has to do to defeat a guy like Lundy. I think it’ll be close–and maybe ugly at times–but Herrera gets the nod.
