Staff Predictions | Wladimir Klitschko vs. Tyson Fury

On Saturday, November 28, 2015, Wladimir Klitschko takes on one of his biggest–physically at least–challenges during his championship reign when he confronts Tyson Fury in Dusseldorf, Germany. Check out RBRBoxing‘s staff predictions and let us know who you think will win.

Klitschko vs. Fury Fight Gauge

Lou Catalano, Senior Writer

Tyson Fury is an unhinged lunatic. He’s also 6’9″ and like 270 pounds. That combination makes him a horrifying nightmare in basically any situation.

Any situation except fighting the Heavyweight champion of the world, who happens to be far more talented at boxing. There are those who believe that Fury can hurt Wladimir Klitschko. He might be big enough to reach him, but reaching him and fighting effectively are two very different things.

Fury might talk a good game, but that’s all he’ll do here. Klitschko by vicious knockout inside four rounds.

Prediction: Klitschko

Sarah Gruber, Staff Writer

I like this matchup, finally a larger and longer opponent for Wladimir Klitshko! Tyson Fury will likely come out very aggressive and have some success in applying pressure on Klitshko is the early rounds, but I doubt he will be able to keep that pace up into the later rounds.

I expect Fury to fade later in the fight and Klitshko will stay calm thoughoput and out box Fury. It is hard to ever pick anyone over Klitshko because he is so, well… consistent.

Prediction: Fury

Tony Calcara, Staff Writer

If this were a fight of smack talk, Tyson Fury wins hands down. Perhaps the only man in the division that can compete on that front is Shannon Briggs.

Standing 6’9” tall, Fury (24-0, 18 KOs) poses an interesting look for Klitschko. At 6’6”, Klitschko (64-3, 53 KOs) faces a man he isn’t looking down at. That said, he won’t have to go looking for Fury, either. Expect Fury to stand directly in front of the champion.

If Fury is to win the fight, he will have to catch the champion, hurt him, and put him away. Look for Klitschko to use the most important weapon of the night, his left jab, and continue to stuff it in the face of Fury. The champion moves better in the ring and I look for him to jab, slide right and left, and then begin breaking out the heavy artillery.

Unless the champion gets caught, I expect him to stop Fury and to put the big man on his back.

I like Klitschko to win by KO.

I’ll be going with Wladimir Klitschko by stoppage in the mid to late rounds over Tyson Fury.

Prediction: Klitschko

Alex Burgos, Editor-in-Chief

You have to give Wladimir Klitschko credit because he’s getting up there in age and he’s still facing the top contenders of the Heavyweight division. He made Alexander Povetkin look like a child, beat Bryant Jennings convincingly and now faces the behemoth, Tyson Fury.

While Fury can talk shit with the best of them, his skills inside of the ring are not up to par with Klitschko’s. Klitschko will jab and clinch Fury to death if he has to, and regardless if it’s fun to watch, Fury will go down in the mid-to-late rounds.
