STATEMENT FROM BELTWAY BATTLES PROMOTERS ABOUT OCTOBER 1 ROUND THREE EVENT AND DUSTY HERNANDEZ-HARRISON

The promoters of Beltway Battles: Round Three today confirmed that the third installment of its pro boxing series will be held as planned on Saturday, Oct. 1, 7:00 pm.

In light of the tragic news of the passing of Buddy Harrison this past Saturday, the promoters of Beltway Battles: Round Three today confirmed that the third installment of its pro boxing series will be held as planned on Saturday, Oct. 1, 7:00 pm at the Entertainment & Sports Arena in Washington, DC and that undefeated DC fighter Dusty Hernandez-Harrison, Buddy’s son, will remain on the card as the event headliner.

“While we will continue to grieve the passing of Buddy [Dusty’s father was a respected and beloved DC boxing trainer and gym owner who died this past Saturday], we look forward to supporting Dusty and his family through this ordeal and invite fans to show their support and love for their family,” said Thomas “Cornflake” LaManna, head of Rising Star Promotions, who along with Dusty and Blue Cork Strategies are promoters of the Beltway Battles series. “We plan to honor Buddy on fight night and fans can purchase Old School Boxing Gym t-shirts onsite as a fundraiser for Buddy’s gym that has provided a special place for hundreds of people, especially many DC kids.”

“Growing up with a father who always comes out on top it makes situations like this seem surreal. This man always won. He beat cancer, he’s been shot and stabbed before. He did 10 years in prison and suffered heart attacks. I watched him work out every day before and after chemotherapy. He loved life so much and he made the most out of it,” explained Hernandez-Harrison who started training with his dad at the age of two.

“He left his mark, and he changed countless lives for the better. He was a dad anyone would be proud to have and there wasn’t any situation I couldn’t call him for. I want everyone to be able to feel the peace that I feel. My dad had a great, strong relationship with God. While he won’t physically be with me on Saturday, I will always feel his presence in the ring by my side.”

Fans are invited to attend the Official Weigh-in on Friday, Sept. 30, Noon at Caesars Sportsbook and Restaurant at Capital One Arena. For tickets and more information, visit www.beltwaybattlesdc.com.
