On Saturday, February 20, 2016, Felix Sturm (40-5-3, 18 KOs) became the first German fighter to win a fifth world title by defeating Fedor Chudinov (14-1, 10 KOs) in a rematch of their May 2015 fight.

Sturm earned a majority decision victory over the previously unbeaten Russian to win the WBA super middleweight title.

As is often the case with a fight that takes place in Germany, Sturm’s victory wasn’t unanimous with the judges, fans or boxing writers.

Judge Ignacio Robles scored the bout 114-114, while Jean-Louis Leglande and Giuseppe Quartarone both scored it 115-113 in favor of Sturm.

After the bout, Sturm–who is 37 years old–spoke about the possibility of retiring on top.

“Perhaps that was my last bout today,” said Sturm (via AP).

“There was huge pressure. I’ll give it a bit of time. We want to come down from this first,” Sturm said.

“All in all, it was a nice way to sign off if that was it.”
