On April 30, 2016, Thomas Williams Jr. (20-1, 14 KOs) engaged in a back-and-forth slug fest before knocking former title challenger Edwin Rodriguez (28-2, 19 KOs) in a scheduled 10-round fight at the StubHub Center in Carson, California.

The fight was the scheduled co-main event of the rematch between Victor Ortiz and Andre Berto, which was televised live on FOX.

Rodriguez, of the Dominican Republic, got off to a great start, landing hard shots on Williams.

Rodriguez, however, opens too widely with his shots and leaves himself very open, which led to his taking several shots throughout the first round.

Williams, though Rodriguez had somewhat control of the fight, relied on his straight punches, which allowed the resident of Washington, DC to land more shots in Round 2.

Then, Rodriguez’s recklessness finally caught up with him and he was dropped and stopped with a hard shot in Round 2.
