In a recent interview with Ring TV, boxing trainer Virgil Hunter spoke about his fighter Andre Berto and his recent loss at the hands of Jesus Soto Karass.

Hunter admitted that although Berto is a “great physical specimen”, he is also lacking in ring IQ.

“A lot of his problem is his lack of knowledge in the ring and his boxing IQ. He knows that, and I know that, and that’s what we want to kind of address.”

Despite injuring his shoulder early on in the Soto Karass fight, Berto turned in a gutsy performance before eventually losing by TKO in Round 12.

Though, it’s obvious that Berto is an athlete, it’s his lack of technical ability that makes watching him so frustrating to watch.

Hunter also stated that before the injury, Berto was hit with punches that he simply should have moved away from in the first round.

Hunter also believes that Berto and Soto Karass should rematch because the first fight left a lot of questions unanswered.

It remains to be seen where Berto decides to go from here or whether an immediate rematch with Soto Karass is an option.
