Super Featherweight prospect Xavier Martinez (14-0, 10 KOs) not only kept his undefeated record but he also stretched his knockout streak to six as he stopped John Moralde (21-3, 11 KOs) in the third round of their contest.
The bout took place at Sam’s Town Live in Las Vegas, Nevada on April 5, 2019 and aired live on Showtime.
Moralde did not have much of a chance to get involved in the match as Martinez jumped all over him. In the opening round, Moralde was rocked by several shots which forced him back. Although Moralde did not get dropped, he did look visibly uncomfortable. It was clear that the power of Martinez would be an issue for his opponent.
The following round was much of the same. Moralde gave very little resistance in the midst of the ongoing onslaught. The third round saw Moralde hit the deck, courtesy of a well timed left hand. Somehow he would manage to get to his feet, but Martinez wasted no time finishing him off. A series of combinations forced the referee to step in and put a halt to the contest.
It is much too early to tell just how good Martinez is as a fighter, but he has looked very impressive in his short career. He does currently campaign at the Super Featherweight division. It could be quite some time before he is ready to step inside the ring with some of the elite at the division.
