Star Boxing‘s undefeated Cuban Light Heavyweight Yuniesky Gonzalez (16-0 12 KO) is ready to burst onto the scene when he takes on former WBC Light Heavyweight champ Jean Pascal (29-3-1 17KO), Saturday, July 25th, at The Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas, NV in a 10 round Light Heavyweight matchup.
The bout will be telecast live on HBO and serve as the opener to the Sergei Kovalev-Nadjib Mohammedi Light Heavyweight unification bout. Gonzalez, currently rated #13 by the WBC has been in intensive training for this bout under the watchful eye of veteran trainer Orlando Cuellar in Miami, FL. Gonzalez was a decorated amateur in his homeland of Cuba amassing close to 400 amateur fights and was a member of the Cuban national team.
Like many other Cuban refugees, Gonzalez defected on a small boat in 2009 and eventually found his way to Miami where he was signed by manager Michael Luzbet and turned pro in December of 2010.
Gonzalez is a versatile fighter not only known for his tremendous punching power but also his ability to box and adapt to his opponents. He is more than ready for the Pascal fight having put in over 6 weeks of hard training for the biggest fight of his career.
Star Boxing head Joe DeGuardia had this to say about the fight: “We are looking forward to showing the boxing world an exciting fighter and hope a new star will be born on July 25th on HBO. I am excited for this fight and I know that Gonzalez has tremendous confidence and that he expects to be successful when he steps into the ring with Jean Pascal”.
The bout is being promoted by Main Events in association with Joe DeGuardia’s Star Boxing and Interbox
