Lamont Peterson vs. Edgar Santana
Lou Catalano, Staff Writer
The Puerto Rican, Edgar Santana has actually won his last three bouts by knockout, but he’s never faced anyone on the level of Lamont Peterson.
The skilled Peterson is just two fights removed from having been decapitated by Lucas Matthysse, so let’s see if there are any lingering issues.
If there are, Santana still probably won’t be able to do much about it. Peterson will win by decision here, proving nothing.
Prediction: Peterson

In this fight I am taking the DMV’s own Lamont Peterson by decision over his “showcase” opponent Edgar Santana.
Lamont, like Garcia, has much more experience at the world class level compared to his opponent and I think it will show as the fight goes on.
Santana has a win over Josesito Lopez and he is a puncher, but I think Peterson outboxes Santana to a unanimous decision.

In the co-featured bout of the evening, Lamont Peterson will showcase his superb talents against Edgar Santana.
Peterson has to win in convincing fashion to display to the boxing world that a future bout against Danny Garcia is still a very good fight to be made.
At the end of the night, Peterson’s talents will be too much for Santana and earn him a unanimous-decision victory.

Out of the three bouts on this card, I think Edgar Santana has the best chance at scoring an upset victory.
Santana possesses KO power and Lamont Peterson is no stranger to the canvas. He’s gone down against Timothy Bradley, Victor Ortiz, Amir Khan and of course, Lucas Matthysse.
If Santana can catch Peterson with some heavy leather early on, it could rattle Peterson and change the champion’s game plan.
I think that Peterson may have to get through some rough stretches, but ultimately he’ll survive and win a close decision. Should Peterson win, he should definitely be in line for a unification bout against Danny Garcia.
